Our Mission:
|
|
This group is about original Buddhist Practice and Dhamma based on
the earliest texts. It follows the English translations put forth by Ven.
Bhikkhu Bodhi and guided in presentations by Ven. Bhante Vimalaramsi of
the Dhamma Sukha Meditation Center who is the overseeing Abbot.
While practicing Right Striving, efforts are directed towards
Observing, Practicing, Preserving and Teaching the original
Buddha Dhamma . We help others move towards a more balanced
peaceful life by learning the true nature of everything including HOW
mind works! This order is dedicated to producing FULLY TRAINED Bhikkunis
who gain respect of elder Sangha members ONLY through having experienced
and clearly understood the
Dhamma. Our ordination program follows the Vinaya as closely as possible
for today's world. We seek to help all people bring back their childlike
curiosity, lightness, happiness, and balance into their lives. In
essence we help people find a more useful peaceful co-existence within
our present day society.
This Tradition supports the
continuation of this Dispensation of the Buddha Dhamma faithfully
memorizing and developing materials which are easy to understand, lead
people to immediate results, and create unshakable confidence in the
Buddha's Teachings. We fully encourage personal experience in Buddhist
Meditation, questioning and testing of all that is taught. We
respectfully offer to teach others in ENGLISH the Dhamma no matter
who they are. We offer equality in training, regardless of sex, founded on the
basis of compassion, respect, and sincere effort. This was the Buddha's
way. |
While carrying on an abiding respect for the World Buddhist
Sangha at large
[All world communities of Buddhist monks and nuns], the nuns of the
Buddhist American Forest Tradition are dedicated to this work.
Group Profile-----------
Our mission as forest nuns is to practice smiling, just as it was so contentedly done in
the original Buddhist Meditation Practice. We do this in an effort to fully
understand, and then support and teach the Buddha Dhamma. As nuns, we
follow a path renouncing the World and householders life, leaving society and existing on Dana/donations
only from lay and monastic communities throughout the world. We strive to support peaceful co-existence through understanding suffering,
realizing the cause of it, realizing the possibility of its cessation, and
practicing the path to that cessation which the Buddha taught.
Donations for this work are made through the United International Buddha Dhamma Society.
(UIBDS) is the supporting non-profit temple/church structure sustaining this order. UIBDS
also helps to arrange alliances with other Buddhist traditions and centers throughout
the world who hold similar interests in getting back to the original Buddha Dhamma
for the sake of developing Peace and Order in the world. By our
reaching out to others, we strive to
demonstrate how the original meditation practice can be easily integrated into
modern daily life. It can bring relief, joy and happiness to the common person
in daily life and relieve suffering. Your kind support is welcome.
This center develops to serve you. The entire Buddhist monastic
tradition, including all groups, are of great merit for all beings and will lead towards Peace among
people of all nations and continue to enrich members of all faiths through
teaching this meditation practice..
Remarks:
"This project truly is a new approach to Buddhism and a refreshing adventure
in America." This group holds in great respect the entire World Buddhist Sangha
and looks forward to its support and enthusiasm towards women and men becoming equally trained and disciplined as monks
in this 21st century.
To date the remark heard most often from students when studying
meditation with our American Abbot is "Oh WOW!" or "At last, Buddhism has
finally come home 'clearly' to the West! It's not confusing anymore. It
is like one beautiful tapestry!"
This is followed by sincere smiles and much happy energy for this
wonderful discovery of how to live more in the present moment with joy and once again
smile in life.
One student commented, "It's true! One CAN actually live in a smile
and it changes everything! It is great fun to watch people figure this out. Come and
see!" Chris F./Australia
"For me coming to find Dhamma Sukha and the nuns project was like
finally seeing Buddhism come home in the West! Wonderful!"
