Our Mission
|
|
This group is strictly about the Dhamma!
It is not about feminist politics supporting the
production of a large quantity of new Bhikkunis. It is not about
demanding equal respect but rather it's about giving and earning equal
respect through the same path as any other male Samanera would travel. This group is
strictly about the preservation and sharing of the original Buddha
Dhamma. It is about producing Buddhist nuns of fine quality with a clear
understanding and deep respect of the Buddhist Meditation and the
Dhamma, and who will learn to respectfully give and teach others
the Dhamma no matter who they are. This is about equality founded on the
basis of compassion, respect, and sincere effort. This was the Buddha's
way. |
While carrying on an abiding respect for the World Buddhist
Sangha at large
[All world communities of Buddhist monks and nuns], the nuns of the
American Buddhist Forest Tradition will be dedicated to:
- Support peaceful coexistence in the World.
- Supporting the growth and expansion of the Dhamma Sukha
Meditation Study Center which offers, in turn, our land space,
protection and sustenance
- Reducing suffering and teaching people how to have
happiness in life by learning how things actually work!
- Offering equal training to both monks and nuns (without ANY
sexual bias) taught by well-educated teachers through listening to
the Buddha Dhamma as taught from the Suttas and Vinaya
- encouraging lay peoples to personally investigate and test the Dhamma through meditation and
engaging Buddhism into their lives.
- Continually researching, studying, practicing, preserving and
teaching future generations the Buddha Dhamma in simple language to
English and foreign speaking people who desire to learn Dhamma English;
- follow the Vinaya
as closely as possible within an American culture to bring relief
from suffering, and to bring happiness and peace to all human beings;
- performing compassionate service through providing a place for teaching others
the secrets of HOW mind works and the true nature of everything
which was the way out of suffering the Buddha rediscovered;
- assisting the continuation of this Dispensation of the Buddha
Gotama for as long as possible.
- providing any monastic, (foreign or American) a way to
learn and teach the Buddha Dhamma using simple clear English words.
Group Profile-----------
Our mission as forest nuns is to practice, as closely as possible,
the original Buddhism in an effort to
support and teach the Buddha Dhamma. This monastic order renounces the householders
life, leaves society and exists on Dana/donations from lay and monastic communities throughout the world
for the purpose of serving the world community and supporting peaceful coexistence.
Donations are made to the United International Buddha Dhamma Society Inc. (UIBDS),
which is the supporting non-profit temple/church structure sustaining this order. UIBDS
also sets up alliances with many other Buddhist traditions and centers throughout
the world who hold similar interest in getting the original Buddha Dhamma across to
people for the sake of Peace and order in the World. Striving to
demonstrate how the original meditation practice can be integrated into
modern daily life bringing relief, joy and happiness to the common person is
the goal of the teaching. Your kind support
is welcome as your center develops to serve you. The Buddhist monastic
tradition is of great merit for all beings and will lead towards Peace among
people of all nations and enriching all faiths.
Remarks:
"This project truly is a new approach to Buddhism and a refreshing adventure
in America." This group holds in great respect the entire World Buddhist Sangha
and looks forward to its support and enthusiasm towards women and men being equally trained and disciplined as monks
in the 21st century.
To date the remark heard most often from students when studying
meditation with our American Abbot is "Oh WOW!" or "At last, Buddhism has
finally come home 'clearly' to the West! It's not confusing anymore."
This is followed by sincere smiles and much happy energy for this
wonderful discovery of how to live in the present moment with joy and once again
smile in life.
One student commented, "It's true! One CAN actually live in a smile
and it changes everything! It is great fun to watch this happening for
people. Come and
see!" Chris F./Australia
"For me coming to find Dhamma Sukha and the nuns project was like
finally seeing Buddhism come home in the West! Wonderful!" Sue/ England
